Time for Australia to celebrate

RESIDENTS of the Gympie region will join the rest of Australia on Saturday in celebrating Australia Day.

The day will mark 225 years since the start of white settlement of Australia, a country that has now grown to be one of the most diverse of cultures to be found anywhere in the world.

Australia Day is a special day for all the mixes of cultures and races and to come together to celebrate all that is great about this country in which we all live.

The day presents a chance for reflection when we can all spend a few moments to think just how lucky we are to live in this great country and why we love it so dearly.

In Gympie there will be a range of celebrations culminating with a citizen's event at the Gympie Civic Centre starting at 4pm.

Starting proceedings will be a citizenship ceremony followed by the presentation of the region's Australia Day awards where community members are recognised for their work in the community
