Tiaro man cuts through for big mower win
TIARO man Terry Vollmerhausen needed just 10 entires to win this year's Gympie Times John Deere mower competition.
An ecstatic Mr Vollmerhausen, 62, beat thousands of entries in this year's competition to win the coveted prize - a brand new John Deere mower from Hi-way 1 Gympie ready for the summer onslaught.
To win the prize, the Tiaro winner collected six tokens and an entry form published in The Gympie Times over the duration of the promotion.
"It's bloody fantastic," Mr Vollmerhausen said.
"It's the biggest prize I have ever won."
Mr Vollmerhausen lives on a small block in Tiaro and without a need for a ride-on mower, has decided to give his prize to a Hervey Bay friend on 2ha (five acres).
"I will give her the prize to get in the good books," he said.
Mr Vollmerhausen said he was an avid Gympie Times reader.
"A lot of people read it up here," he said.
"I put in about 10 entries. It's a great competition."
Gympie Times' distribution manager Adam Nyburg said this year's competition was more successful than last year.
"It was definitely bigger this year," he said.
"The Gympie Times received thousands of entries this year, which once again made the competition a big success."
The John Deere mower competition ran from July 23 to September 30.
Bonus entries published August 17 and 28 had readers wielding the scissors keen to boost their chances.
