Three men abused police officers

THREE men who abused police officers when they were called to a housewarming party at Lawrence Street home on July 11 pleaded guilty in Gympie Magistrates Court to creating a public nuisance.

Shaun Lee Cooper, 29, had been arrested for another matter when he kicked the police car while screaming obscenities.

Kenneth Sam Gallaher, 31, of Crescent Road, Gympie and Thomas Patrick Gallaher, 27, of Decker Place, Southside, got angry at police for arresting their friend and swore at officers. They were told to calm down but refused to do so and were arrested.

Cooper, of Upper Eel Creek Road, Langshaw, was also charged with obstructing police by trying to headbutt an officer at the police station. He was fined $500. The Gallagher’s and Cooper said it was a big night and they were all seriously intoxicated.

“Both of you are amassing a criminal history... you’re getting a bit old,” Magistrate Maxine Baldwin said and asked the Gallagher’s to give her an age when it would all stop.

“This is the age,” they said and were ordered to do 40 hours of community service each.
