Three people injured in Tin Can Bay Rd head-on

THREE people were taken to Gympie Hospital from the scene of a head-on two vehicle collision on Tin Can Bay Rd, near Gympie, yesterday.

Emergency vehicles raced to the scene, a short distance east of the Kin Kin Rd turnoff, shortly after 1.30pm.

The main route between Gympie and busy holiday destinations at Tin Can Bay, Rainbow Beach, Cooloola National Park and Fraser Island, was blocked for a short time by the crash.

The crash involved a Toyota station wagon and a Ford Festiva sedan.

Two ambulances, a Queensland Fire and Rescue Service appliance and several police vehicles attended the scene.

A spokeswoman for Community Safety Media said the three people taken to hospital were all thought to be suffering minor injuries only.

Both cars were significantly damaged.

The crash occurred in the middle of a series of major police traffic operations aimed at achieving a fatality-free holiday period.
