Thieves hit tip centre 3 times

THIEVES broke into the recycling centre at the Bonnick Rd tip three times since the January floods subsided, cutting the padlock on a gate at the rear of the building in the first break-and-enter and knocking down a large metal post in the second.

It is not known how they gained entry on the third night, but anyone who saw any suspicious behaviour near the tip on February 1, 2 or 4 is asked to contact Gympie police or Crimestoppers. Police said yesterday the intruders were thought to have approached the business via a dirt track leading to Old Maryborough Rd.

They made off with two toolboxes and about 12 cans and bottles of beer, scotch and coke, and "trashed" the rear of the recycle shop.

Sometime between 5pm on Monday night and 6.30am on Tuesday, they returned and took a plastic container full of shampoo, conditioner, shaving cream, body lotions, deodorant spray, and cleaning products including Cuddly fabric softener to the value of $200.
