Curra couple's great endeavour

WHAT does a blue 1966 HR Holden and a road trip through some of Queensland's roughest roads equal?

The answer is the annual Great Endeavour Rally and 2015 will mark the first time that Curra couple Ria Boustead and Jim Barnett take part.

They bought their car two years ago, with the intention to drive it in the rally.

"It's been a bucket list (item) for me and my partner," Ms Boustead said.

Their car was driven in many Variety bashes by its previous owners, but Ms Boustead and Mr Barnett only ever watched the Endeavour Rally on television.

They also have personal reasons for participating, it is not just for the fun.

"A good friend has a son with down syndrome and you can see a lot of where the money (raised) goes," Ms Boustead said.

"We want to raise as much money as we can."

They will drive along the dusty stretches in their car, called Car66 Bogans.

In fact, their bogan theme was chosen after a disagreement over 'smurfs'.

They will travel with their companions from July 17 until 25, leaving from Redcliffe, heading to Airlie Beach and finishing in Rockhampton.

"(It's) a good time for a good cause," Ms Boustead said.

However, before they can burn some rubber, Ms Boustead and Mr Barnett need to raise more funds.

To do so, they will host a sausage sizzle at Charlie's Bottle Shop carpark tomorrow , from 10-2pm.

There will be much more on offer than snags and cold drinks, including stubby coolers and key rings.

Anyone who spends $5 will receive a prize, plus there are tickets for a Bundy Barbeque Pack raffle, drawn on the day.

Ms Boustead will also host a fundraising movie event of 50 Shades of Grey at Gympie Sovereign Cinema on Sunday, February 15.

Tickets are $15 and can be bought at the sausage sizzle or from Tyre Power and Innovations, Mary St.

"The Gympie community has been fantastic with their different support," Ms Boustead said.

To donate online, go to the Endeavour Rally website and search for Car66Bogans.
