Industrial noise concerns in residential Jones Hill

THE unintended consequences of success for one Gympie trucking company may be proof that every silver lining has a dark cloud.

But fortunately, the outlook in Corbet Rd, Jones Hill, is for clearing conditions for the firm, Corbet Transport Industries, and neighbours.

Many of those neighbours are concerned at the price they pay in noise, especially at night.

Now employing about 120 people, the company has outgrown the site where it was established, long before most of its neighbours moved in and long before the planning rules that have now deemed the area "residential".

Mayor Ron Dyne says he understands residents' concerns, but says a solution is needed that does not involve shutting the company down.

"They're one of the businesses in Gympie that are really growing. They employ a large number of people."

He says the council is working with the state government to find a new Mary Valley home for the company.

One possible site is thought to be near the new Mary Valley link road. Deputy Premier Jeff Seeney's office yesterday said it was up to the company to comment.

The Gympie Times has approached the firm's directors for a comment but none has so far been received.
