The best go on parade
THE best of the region's livestock was paraded proudly in the Grand Parade at the official opening the 125th Gympie Show.
Dairy and beef cattle, horses and alpacas joined the procession in front of a healthy crowd, under blue skies.
Member for Gympie David Gibson formally opened the Gympie Show in front of the official party that included Gympie Mayor Ron Dyne, Federal Member for Wide Bay Warren Truss, Gympie Show president Lars Hedberg, vice-president Joe Mooney and show secretary Deb Rowlands.
One moving moment of the opening was a presentation to long-time ring announcer Alain Henderson.
Mr Henderson has been "The Voice" of the Gympie Show for 49 years.
He has great knowledge about everything and everyone in the ring.
His voice is one of the most recognised in Gympie.
Mr Henderson's eyes welled up as he accepted the plaque and true to his usual style made a great speech about his love for the Gympie Show.
"I have been to a lot of showgrounds in my time and this showground is one of the best around with some of the nicest people you could ever get tangled up with," he said.
The Gympie Show continues today with a great line-up of entertainment, including a rodeo, fireworks and the Pigs.
