"I am famous now!" says woman texting at 110kmh in the wet

THE half-sister of the woman snapped texting while driving in wet conditions on the Bruce Hwy has spoken about the family's concerns for her safety.

The sister, who has asked to remain anonymous, revealed only three months earlier her sister had been in a horrible car crash after "sleeping at the wheel" which nearly killed her.

She explained this was why she wasn't wearing a seatbelt, "because she had really bad whiplash".

The sister also contacted the Daily to clarify what she said were misconceptions about what actually happened when the photo was taken by Century 21 Coastal real estate agent Katherine Carter on Sunday.

"What happened was she wasn't driving with her knees, she had one hand on the steering wheel but it was down at the bottom," she said.

"Yes, it had been raining, but it wasn't raining at the time and the speed limit there was 110kmh.

"She wasn't going over the limit, she wasn't speeding.

"And all the stuff said about her (on the Daily's website and Facebook page) are quite horrible."

At the same time, she acknowledged her 19-year-old sister's irresponsibility and the family's fears for her safety.

"It was pretty dumb, I agree with what they saying," she said.

"She has a child, who wasn't with her in the car.

"We are trying to protect her, we have had recent passings in the family. Our uncle passed away.

"This doesn't excuse what she did, but she is getting targeted.

"I understand you are promoting a dangerous issue and I agree what she did was very, very wrong and very, very dangerous.

"But we've had a lot of randoms targeting her. The accusations need to stop."

She said her sister had been texting while driving since "day one".

"She has already had the accident, this doesn't change who she is or what she does," she said.

"We are scared for her, that one day we will hear she has had an accident and hasn't woken up.

"Our older brother in NSW was in a bad accident, he was in hospital for three-and-a-half months.

"But this was not a wake-up call for her.

"Her comment on this was that 'I am famous now'. She said she had to text someone very important, but we said she didn't have to."
