Tennis win

IN yesterday’s edition of The Gympie Times, Brisbane tennis player Scott Puodziunas was reported as the winner of the Gympie RSL Open at the weekend.

Puodziunas defeated Grant Silcock, a coach also from Brisbane, in the final 6-2 7-6 (7-4).

The photo accompanying the article should have stated the Glen Eaton Memorial Trophy was presented by Sid Eaton, Glen’s father.

The tournament was hotly contested by a smaller than usual field owing to an International Tennis Federation (ITF) tournament in Ipswich being held at the same time.

Gympie and District Tennis Association coach and tournament director Matthew Watkins was pleased with the quality of tennis on display, including local stars Matt Brown and Christy Scott.

Brown made the round of 16 while Scott, who continues to develop as a player, advanced through to the quarter finals where she lost to the top seed, Cassie Gramlick.

The spirit shown by competitors throughout the tournament encapsulated what Glen Eaton Memorial Trophy represents.
