Calling all tenders

GYMPIE Regional Council has called for tenders for its multi-million dollar Aquatic Recreation Centre.

Mayor Mick Curran said yesterday project construction documentation for the centre was complete, and the tender request, which seeks submissions from suitably qualified companies, had been advertised nationally.

Companies have until September 2, to respond with their proposals.

Cr Curran said the call for construction tenders was a significant step forward in the progress of the aquatic centre.

"The call for the construction tender signals we are one important step closer to the realisation of this highly anticipated community asset," he said.

"It is exciting to embark on the next stage of delivering a quality aquatic centre in our region. ARC will be a wonderful asset to the Gympie region, increasing liveability and helping our region become the natural choice to live, work and play."

ARC will have as its core features a 50m outdoor pool, a 25m heated indoor pool and a water play area for children.

The council is expected to make a decision on the successful tenderer in October, with construction to start in November.

The council aims for the facility to be operational by December next year.
