Teenager arrested after school deliberately set on fire

A TEENAGER is in police custody after allegedly setting fire to a school on the weekend.

Police arrested a 16-year-old boy from the Gold Coast suburb of Carrara, in relation to a fire at an Ashmore school.

Police believe at 1.30pm on Sunday, a fire was deliberately lit at the school situated at the intersection of Edmund Rice Drive and Southport Nerang Road.

The fire caused extensive damage to a number of lockers, port racks and ceiling however there was no structural damage to the building.

A 16-year-old Carrara boy will be dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act 1992.
