Teen stole mum's car

AN unlicensed 17-year-old who took a car from his mother’s home in Yeppoon and drove it to Gympie was dealt with in Gympie Magistrates Court for a break and enter offence.

The court heard Wade Trevor Capps of Primrose Crt, Gympie and his mother were co-owners of the car, but because he was not the holder of a driver’s licence or a learner’s permit he had not been allowed to drive it.

The car was kept locked and secured in the carport on the night of March 29. The next morning the car was gone, as well as $270 cash, which had been taken from his mother’s wallet.

Capps admitted he opened a window to get the car keys and the cash. When police located the vehicle in Gympie on April 1, they found him behind the wheel. He was charged with drink driving and unlicensed driving and received an $800 fine and disqualification.

On the charge of enter dwelling and commit an indictable offence, he was placed on a good behaviour bond for six months.
