ONE of Tangalooma Resort's famous dolphins - which eat out of the hands of guests - has given birth to a long awaited calf.

The mother of the new dolphin, 17-year-old Tangles is one of the regulars at the resort when it comes to rocking up for a feed and the last time she gave birth to a calf was in 2012.

Tangalooma eco-ranger Sue Hassard welcomed the arrival.

"We have worked so hard to build the bond we have with these beautiful creatures," she said,

"It's so strong that the dolphins that visit us daily have trust in us and Tangles has brought her one day old baby dolphin into the provisioning area in front of our guests,"

The Resort now says it will launch a social media campaign to allow the public to name the new dolphin, in a couple of days time.
