Tamworth awards for Rodger

HOME-grown talent Graham Rodger will return to Gympie from Tamworth with three awards under his belt - the Tamworth Songwriting award for best bush ballad; People's Choice award for best male vocal and People's Choice award for special vocal event - a duet titled An Affair of the Heart with Sara Storer.

When he last spoke to The Gympie Times, Graham said the People's Choice awards was "the best award of the lot" because "it's out of the hands of the industry and straight to the Australian public who listen to the songs and buy the albums".

"It has been a wonderful festival," he said of this year's Tamworth event.

"Our shows have been packed out with people willing to bring in camp chairs or even to stand to see the show."

But before Graham heads back to Gympie, he was "off to the Dag Sheep Station" to sing.

"I've also booked the Australian Institute of Country Music for a concert on March 23.

"Part of the takings will be donated to the institute."

The latest awards bring the multi award-winning country music songwriter and recording artist's total to 56.

With 10 albums and three DVDs, Graham is looking to his 11th album - his motto being

"There's no time to rest on your laurels in this business."
