DON'T be mistaken by first impressions of rising country music star Ryan Sampson.
His baby face hides an old soul, brought to life every time Sampson belts out a tune with passion and conviction. With a stage presence and voice well beyond his years, Sampson is making his mark in Australia.
His first single release in 2011 called Marilyn Monroe Was a Size 14, created quite a buzz at the Tamworth Country Music Festival.
Since then Sampson has played at various festivals, including the Gympie Muster and many venues and events in between. His musical journey began in 2006 when selected overall Queensland Champion of Champions.
He appeared on Australian Idol in 2009 and was the only contestant to make it through as an automatic entry in the top 60, completing his Idol journey in the top 40. In 2011 he was awarded Capital New Rising Star Male, in the prestigious Australian Independent Country Music Awards.
Sampson is looking forward to playing in the acoustically-advanced Apex Auditorium at AICM and will also be holding a vocal and stagecraft workshop on Thursday, May 24.
