Survivor contestant speaks out after friend's death

THE death of a close friend is the motivating force behind Sam's Webb's determination to speak out on suicide prevention.

The 2016 Survivor contestant is coming to the Fraser Coast to talk about breaking the silence when it comes to discussing mental health issues and suicide prevention awareness.

Sam lost his friend, Dwayne Lally, nearly four years ago when he was first embarking on his acting career.

"His death really hit home with me," he said.

"I spoke with Dwayne the night before he passed away and I had my own mental health challenges.

"I've lost a couple of people in my family to suicide to it was something very close to my heart."

Now a co-founder of Livin.org, which focuses on breaking through the stigma attached to mental health in our communities, Sam will host a tradies breakfast at the JAC CIVIL depot (lot 2 Precision Dr, Oakhurst) on August 31 from 6.30am.

He will speak at several of the region's high schools before holding a meet and greet at the Torquay Hotel from 7pm on August 31.

Sam, who has made guest appearances on Neighbours and hosted Channel Nine's Great Winter Escapes in Western Australia.

Sam co-founded Livin.org with Casey Lyons in 2013 and has travelled throughout Australia and United States with that same message - it ain't weak to speak.

"We're just ordinary guys, doing ordinary things, sharing stories that are very relatable," Sam said.

"Everyone is a part of the Livin family and no one is higher than anyone else,"
