Support Gympie's tennis players

GYMPIE and District Tennis coach Matthew Watkins is calling on support for locals contesting this weekend’s Gympie RSL Open Tournament.

The tournament is being held at the Reg English Tennis Centre today and tomorrow. Watkins, tournament director, said he was looking forward to play getting underway, although entries were down on last year.

“There is an International Tennis Federation (ITF) tournament in Ipswich that has eaten into our entries,” he said.

Locals in action include Matt Brown and Tim Powell in the men’s singles in addition to Christy and Joelene Scott in the women’s singles. Former Gympie lad Matt Klein won the men’s singles final last year but won’t be defending his crown. Finals tomorrow 11am.
