WELCOME to Sunday Soapbox - where you can stand up and have your say on just about anything.

This week, we talk to retiree Frederick Archer who is a proud letter writer who submits columns to his local paper.

His Sunday Soapbox questions how people can criticise democracy, when it is democracy that allows them to have their say.

Mr Archer said he was contacted by a member of the public who wanted him to write a letter talking about the negatives of democracy.

"The gist of it was that he wanted me to write a letter or column against democracy," Mr Archer said.

"I thought 'how could I possibly write against democracy? If I was in a dictatorship I wouldn't be allowed to, but if I am in a democracy I can write whatever I like about people I don't agree with politically - surely that's not that bad thing."

But, what do you think?

We encourage everybody to join the conversation and add comments in the section below. Please keep comments respectful.
