Sunday is pick to wet a line around Cooloola

FISHING: It will be a bit choppy today and easing right back tomorrow, with Sunday being the pick of the days with light southerlies.

Today the winds will be easterly 15 to 20 knots, but the seas will increase with 1- 1.5m, increasing to 1.5-2m offshore north of Maroochydore.

Tomorrow winds will be east to north-easterly 10 to 15 knots, decreasing to about 10 knots during the evening with seas around one

metre.

There have been some solid catches of spanish mackerel, along with plenty of mac tuna and longtail tuna feeding just off Mooloolaba and close in along the coast, with some good blue swimmer crabs being potted in the Bay off Mooloolaba.

Sunshine Reef this week has had hussar, squire, grass sweetlip, pearl perch, moses perch, maori cod, coral trout and venus tusk fish.

There is pearl perch and grassy sweetlip on the Gneering Shoals and tusk fish, hussar and coronation trout on the Barwon Banks.

Long tail and mac tuna have also been spotted off Coolum.

Double Island Point has been producing some nice tusk-fish, maori and gold spot cod, mackerel, cobia and amberjack.

The reefs off Rainbow Beach and Double Island Point and about 20nm north of Wide Bay Bar have had reports of red emperor, pearl perch, tuskfish, sweetlip and longtail tuna.

There is also plenty of tuna around the Wide Bay Bar.

Estuaries and Beaches:

In the estuaries and beach fishing scene, Fraser Island and Hervey Bay should have bream, whiting, flathead, and a few chopper tailor off the beach and with jew overnight when the weather clears on Saturday.

There have been a few good snub nosed dart being taken in gutters north of Eli Creek.

Threadfin salmon and barra have been found in the Sandy Straits and the Mary River.

Flathead, bream and whiting are lurking between the harbour and around Woody Island, while

trevally, queenfish and a few spotty mackerel around the bay islands with flathead, bream, whiting, sand crabs also in numbers in the Straits.

Rainbow Beach has had chopper tailor and trevally and bream have been feeding off Inskip Point.

Tin Can Bay and the creeks feeding into the Sandy Straits are still having quality mangrove jack feeding as well as dusky flathead, bream and the odd barra.

The mud crabs are still on the move and there are a few sandies in Tin Can Bay.

In the freshwater scene, there have been quality golden perch (yellowbelly), saratoga and bass on offer at Bjelke-Petersen, Lake Boondooma and Borumba dams.

Try for bass in the upper reaches of the Mary River. There's been really good quality bass and saratoga feeding in the local dams, Borumba, Lake Boondooma and Lake MacDonald

In Noosa, fish the beaches for dart, bream and whiting. There have been bream and quality flathead being caught and some released in the lower river as well.
