Suburban bonfire explosion leaves two with serious burns

A SUBURBAN bonfire that went horribly wrong at a Sunshine Coast home has inflicted serious burns on two people.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said the bonfire was burning outside a Kuluin home before it "exploded" just before 6.14pm yesterday.

Paramedics rushed to the scene, and found a man aged in his 30s had suffered second degree burns to both of his legs.

A second patient also sustained burns to their hands.

Firefighters were also called to the scene, but when they arrived the 5m by 3m bonfire was already extinguished.

They reported the pile consisted mainly of vegetation.

Both patients were taken to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital, and paramedics reported both were in a stable condition.
