Substation turned on
ENERGEX has flicked the switch on a new substation and powerline upgrade at Goomboorian, benefiting more than 3000 homes and businesses in the area.
The project involved constructing a new substation north-east of Gympie, on the corner of Tin Can Bay and Buchanan Rds, and installing four new 11,000volt powerlines to connect the new substation to the existing electricity network.
The project has improved the reliability of power supply to the local area including Goomboorian, Ross Creek, Downsfield, Wilsons Pocket, Wolvi, Coondoo, Kia Ora, Neerdie, Anderleigh and Toolara Forest.
Energex's asset manager for the North Coast, Steve Lynch, said the upgrades were required to improve the reliability of supply and to cater for future growth.
"Prior to the construction of the new substation, power to Goomboorian and surrounding areas was received directly from Gympie, which resulted in power interruptions from time to time," he said.
"Growth in the outskirts of Gympie has seen demand for electricity rise significantly over the past few years, and this project will ensure ongoing network reliability, especially in times of peak demand."
