Staff deal with job loss as Crazy Clark’s closes

CRAZY Clark's in Kyogle is officially closing down after it was announced on Friday a further 29 discount stores across the country would get the axe.

The Kyogle closure will mean eight staff will lose their jobs including five casual employees, two full-time and one part-time.

The doors will be shut on July 20.

Nine of the 29 stores are in NSW, 14 are in Queensland, three are in Victoria, two in SA and one in WA.

In NSW, the closures include stores in Coffs Harbour, Toormina, Kyogle, Wingham, Scone, Goulburn, Ingleburn, Merimbula and Tooma.

Crazy Clark's parent company, Discount Super Group (DSG)- which also owns Sam's Warehouse - went into receivership on July 1.

The company employs more than 2500 people across 143 stores in Australia.

DSG stores in the Northern Rivers include four Crazy Clark's in Lismore, Ballina, Casino and Kyogle and one Sam's Warehouse in Ballina.

So far, Kyogle is the only Northern Rivers store confirmed for closure.

The second round of store closures will bring the total number to 39, after it was confirmed 10 stores would close in the "first round" of announcements earlier this month.

Another round of closures is expected to be announced next Thursday.

The appointed receivers KordaMentha said they would try to sell the 100 profitable stores, and close those running at a loss.

KordaMentha spokesman Michael Smith said the total number of job losses was nearly 600.

"We need to sell a lot of stock and we need to sell big chunks of the business in order to pay those staff entitlements," he said.

"We're fairly confident we'll make it, but we need the help of the local communities and we hope to pay all of those entitlements by the end of September."

Mr Smith said the "huge discount" closing down sales would continue until the stores are sold, closed or run out of stock.
