St Pat's goes Simply Classical
THE wealth of prolific Australian composers will be celebrated at Sunday's Simply Classical concert in St Patrick's Catholic Church.
Organiser Heide Kath said the concerts are not necessarily about “stars” or tunes that everyone knows, but about good music.
“That's why we thought it fitting to include among the Australian composers, some of our performers who have come forward with compositions of their own, such as pianist Helen Morris, guitarist John Parkinson and Sharon Templeton who has written a piece for recorder ensemble,” Mrs Kath said.
The string ensemble of the Cooloola Community Orchestra will present Riverfiddle, written by young Brisbane composer of Finnish extraction, Timo Jarvela.
They'll also play Arctic Fire by another Brisbane-based composer Stephen Chin who adds some Chinese flavour.
Gympie violinist Kylie McIvor will perform Irish Fancy by Wendy Ireland.
Two local performers Quentin Chen and Duncan Rider, both of whom did well at the recent Queensland Eisteddfod, will present pieces.
Other items include performances on guitar, euphonium and recorders.
The concerts start at 2pm, followed by afternoon tea.
