Spotlight beckons local songstress

HOLLYWOOD is beckoning local musician Karen Thomsen.

The local entertainer has been asked to join an Australian team, which will compete in the prestigious World Championships of Performing Arts in America in July.

For now she is busy fundraising and practising.

Because of the cost involved, Karen will need sponsorship to make this dream a reality.

Selected by judges in a worldwide search, if all goes well, Karen will go head-to-head "Olympic-style" in a number of categories where there will be a fierce contest of skills to see who is truly the most accomplished in the world.

If she wins she will receive a gold medal which brings with it the respect and admiration of people around the world along with potentially a career opportunity of a lifetime.

A total of $130,000 in scholarships is also awarded.

Karen is hoping this story will attract some fundraising for her trip as well as make people aware she will be holding fundraising activities.

"All ideas and any donations will be greatly appreciated," she said.

"The costs I am hoping to cover are the team costs which are accommodation, competition, boot camps and uniform etc.

"The fares I will be able to cover myself if I miss the mark."

If anybody would like to donate to Karen's cause they can do so at the AICM in the Karen Thomsen going to Hollywood cause.

"This is a year of new horizons for me. My music journey has taken me to this," she said.

"This is something I have waited years for. As well as being selected to compete in these championships, Karen recently returned from a successful tour to the Tamworth Country Music Festival."
