Sportsbet's horse Four Beers Please finishes last on debut

Four Beers Please, the horse bought by bookmaker Sportsbet to race for nearly 12,000 of its customers, has made an inglorious start to her racing career.

The filly, a $20,000 purchase at the 2016 Australian Weanling sales, lined up in the opening event at Wagga on Friday - a 2YO Maiden Plate over 1000m.

Four Beers Please, originally known as Halal Snack Pack until officials requested a name change, was sent out as the $4 second-favourite behind hot-pot Sizzling Belle ($1.70).

Jockey Simon Miller rode hard early on Four Beers Please to hold a prominent position, settling third on the fence after a furlong.

Unfortunately for its many connections, FBP was as flat as a warm can of Foster's with 600m to run before disappearing out of sight soon after straightening.

The Joseph and Jones-trained filly laboured to the line to finish in a different postcode to impressive winner Sizzling Belle, with the official losing margin 16.07L.

Owners from the Wagga Wagga area (around 50 of them) at least got something out of their trip to the races, with Sportsbet shouting four beers each for each owner.

The bookmaker, no doubt feeling a little sheepish post-race, also refunded bets on Four Beers Please in the form of bonus bets.

Add to Blackbook said the filly looked a little sore and will now head for a spell, possibly in the sea.

"Most likely wake up tomorrow and find out that she's shin sore. Two-month spell for her now," said Jones.

Four Beers Please is currently a $1001 chance for the Golden Slipper - a price that is missing at least three zeroes.
