Spoil mum at Mary River event

A COMBINED event to celebrate Mothers' Day and the Mary River will be held in Tiaro on Sunday.

Hosted by the Greater Mary Association, the Love Mary Day will also toast the success of the koala corridor implemented along the river in Tiaro and the importance of rivers.

The program, which runs from 11am-4pm in Petrie Park, includes several talks on what makes the Mary River and Great Sandy Straight special and interpretative walks along the river.

There will also be a close-up of animals with the Gecko Man, a free gift for mums and coffee and cake by the river.

Local community group stalls will operate and entries in a schools' Mary River Art Competition will be on display.

Free workshops in cats claw weaving and seed ball making will operate throughout the day and a cats claw creeper biological control tour will take place along with an explanation about nesting boxes.

A novelty highlight of the event with be a koala grunting competition and Tiaro Lions members will man the barbecue to keep the hunger pangs at bay.
