Southside plan shapes up following feedback

REMOVAL of an industrial section and a landscaped buffer are some of the changes to the Southside Structure Plan following community feedback.

Councillors were given an update on the progress of the plan, which will form the basis for future decision-making as Gympie's population continues to grow.

The biggest plan change from the consultation was the removal of a low industry impact zone on Eel Creek Rd, to be replaced by urban residential zoning.

Councillors were told an overview of the region's industry showed removing the zone would have no impact on the areas industrial needs over the next 15-30 years.

Mayor Mick Curran said the decision to reject the industry zone was "a good result”, as it showed "council is listening to the community”.

Twenty-four submissions were received over the consultation period, of which many cited lot sizes as the primary concern.

Council is still accepting written feedback on the plan until December 23.
