Southside man pleads guilty to stealing cosmetics

A SOUTHSIDE man caught stealing cosmetics on May 17 appeared disappointed as he faced Gympie Magistrates Court on Monday.

While Daniel Watson, 34, pleaded guilty to taking the unpaid cosmetics from a Gympie pharmacy, he said the theft was accidental.

"I did walk out with them... by mistake," the 34-year-old father told the court on Monday.

He said he was choosing the product to buy for his partner while he was waiting for prescriptions.

The court heard he put the pack of two concealers and foundation in his pants pocket when he was distracted by his children.

The blunder occurred when Watson followed the children out of the shop.

The court heard Watson's criminal history showed that he had previously been convicted of similar offences.

Watson told the court he paid for the products after staff told him he had walked out with them.

He was fined $220.
