Some living on struggle street

JONES Hill has emerged as Gympie's wealthiest suburb in the 2011 Census, though its median weekly household income of $1192 remains just below the Queensland median of $1235.

The Gympie region's youngest communities are Long Flat, Calico Creek and Tansey, out in the South Burnett, which all have a median age of 38, five years below the region's median of 43 and 10 years below the oldest local neighbourhood - Glenwood, which has a median age of 49.

Glenwood also has the inauspicious position as the region's poorest community, with a median weekly household income of $594, about half that of Jones Hill.

More than half the households in Glenwood gross less than $600 a week. Queensland-wide less than a quarter of households are in that lower earning bracket, and at Jones Hill less than 20%.

On the upside, having a mortgage at Glenwood leaves you with a better cashflow, with the median monthly mortgage repayment of $1083 almost $800 lower than the average Queenslander.

Spiritually, at Glastonbury just west of Gympie, a third of the residents have "no religion", compared to Tansey, further west, where most of the population still identifies with a Christian denomination and only 14.2% have "no religion".

At Langshaw, where the median age is 47 and the median household income $911, the most common response for a religion was Anglican (21.8%), followed by Catholic (18.5%), followed by "no religion (16.8%).

Tansey and Langshaw fly in the face of most other communities in the Gympie region, where "no religion" was the most common response.
