Soils cop a hammering from floods, but advice available
THE Burnett-Mary Regional Group has engaged local soils expert Peter Wilson to assist flood-affected landholders in the Burnett-Mary region with soil and flood erosion advice.
Mr Wilson is coming out of retirement to assist landholders in the region in which he worked for the past 25 years.
He has worked in collaboration with landholders, rural industry and local government to improve productivity, while avoiding degradation of our land and water resources.
Mr Wilson has a wealth of experience in soils, vegetation and water management and in applying that knowledge to land use, planning and sustainable land management practices.
He also has detailed knowledge of crops and pasture systems applicable to soil and climatic conditions of the Burnett-Mary region.
The group's Sustainable Landscapes program team leader Cathy Mylrea was thrilled to have Mr Wilson's expertise available for flood-affected landholders.
"Peter's detailed knowledge of landscape processes such as water, salt, nutrient and soil and sediment movement, combined with his big-picture knowledge of geology, geomorphology, hydrology and soil processes will be an invaluable resource for landholders in this region to tap into", Ms Mylrea said.
"I hope flood-affected landholders register their interest in having flood damage to their properties assessed."
In addition to soil and flood erosion advice, the group is able to provide advice regarding invasive weeds and riparian revegetation.
Register your interest to have your property assessed by phoning the Burnett-Mary Regional Group on 4181 2999 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
