Society’s patron celebrates 90 years
CELEBRATING 90 years is an amazing milestone - and Betty Cockburn is a special lady who deserves to enjoy the best birthday ever.
The Gympie Municipal Horticultural Society was formed in 1947 and Betty has been a continual member for the past 67 years and more recently its patron.
She has gathered many wonderful memories during those years, formed lifelong gardening friends, and always brings happiness and joy to others.
Everyone congratulated Betty and wished her all the best on Saturday at our meeting in the gardens of Mike and Mavis Silvers of Wolvi.
Betty enjoyed everyone singing Happy Birthday to her and cutting the delicious fruit cake made by Lesley Notley.
The gardeners present all enjoyed a piece at afternoon tea.
She was also presented with a beautiful arrangement of roses in different bright colours, a birthday card signed by members and a helium birthday balloon.
Betty couldn't stop grinning as she enjoyed an outing with her gardening friends.
