Society’s birthday triumph

LISTENING to Queensland Governor Penelope Wensley speak at the Cooloola Art Society's 40th birthday celebration on Friday night, one could be forgiven for thinking she was a local.

At the high tea, held at the Gympie Regional Art Gallery, Ms Wensley's speech was a standout of the night.

She spoke in glowing terms of our amazing region, its history, great buildings, love of the arts and our resilience in times of disaster.

Her speech was a reminder of how important the arts are to a well-rounded and tolerant community and how the arts are an important way for individuals to express and showcase the strength and maturity of a community.

Gympie is very lucky, our art gallery is one if not the best in the country Australia, something of which we should all be proud.

We as a community owe a great deal to the Cooloola Art Society's many members who have worked to achieve this.

So happy birthday to the society and thanks for all your hard work.
