Slipper applies for case throw out

EMBATTLED Sunshine Coast MP Peter Slipper has applied to have a sexual harassment case against him thrown out of the Federal Court.

Allegations of sexual harassment were brought against Mr Slipper by former staffer James Hunter Ashby in the court earlier this year.

Fairfax media reported Mr Slipper's lawyer, Maurice Blackburn's Josh Bornstein, applied to have the case thrown out on the grounds of an abuse of process.

The specific abuses of process were not specified in the interlocutory application Mr Bornstein filed with the court on Tuesday, Fairfax reported.

Mr Ashby was suing Mr Slipper and the Federal Government for breaching his work contract, on grounds of sexual harassment.

He had previously included, and then removed, allegations of financial misconduct against his former employer in the case.

A spokesman for Mr Ashby said he had no comment on Tuesday.

The case will next be heard in Sydney's Federal Court on Friday.
