Skipper quick to get rid of Johnson's slower delivery

CRICKET: Don't expect to see too many slower balls from Mitchell Johnson when the unbeaten Perth Scorchers take on the Sydney Sixers at the WACA on Monday night.

The 36-year-old, who had another impressive performance on Friday, taking 3-13 as the Scorchers downed the Renegades, said the change-up ball was definitely in his repertoire but his skipper, Adam Voges, had encouraged him to use it only when necessary.

"I try it (slower ball) every now and then, but the last game Vogesy got up me for it,” Johnson said.

"He said, 'What are you doing bowling slower balls? That's the last time you bowl slower balls at the WACA'.

"And it's probably a fair point, especially when it was going through pretty nicely.

"It was pretty dumb on my behalf.

"But you've got to be unpredictable as a bowler, when you become predictable, it's an easier game (for the batters).”

The Sixers will be without skipper Moises Henriques who has been given indefinite leave to deal with personal issues.

The Scorchers will play the Sixers at the WACA from 8.25pm (AEST).

Also on Monday, the Sydney Thunder will host the Hobart Hurricanes at Olympic Park from 6.10pm.
