SIGN OF THE TIMES: Red tape catches up with markets

RED tape has caught up with a colourful set of street signs which for years have guided patrons to one of the Coast's most well-known attractions.

An Original Eumundi Market Community Board audit of its signage has revealed it didn't have Sunshine Coast Council permission to construct some its billboards and banners.

"... following discussions with council staff it appears that several signs have been erected without approval," an application letter read.

"The Original Eumundi Market Community Board now seeks approval for these signs, some of which have been on site for around 10 years."

A brightly coloured billboard at its Napier Road entrance as well as another billboard and three pylon signs on Lonergan Lane were found to be unapproved.

The market board has since had to lodge an application for them.

The council is currently seeking comment from the public as to the suitability of the signs to the area.
