Show jumping judge ready

ATHOL Clarke has been coming to Gympie for more than 12 years as a show jumping judge and says nothing compares to the Gympie event.

Show jumping gets under way today in the show ring with New Zealand course designer Kevin Hansen ready to set up a tricky layout for the talented array of show jumpers.

Clarke says Hansen always does a great job.

The international judge said, "Gympie would be as good a show as there is."

"It would be the best. It is just a shame it clashes with Ipswich this year."

He says the judging box is one of the best going around and the ground at Gympie was always "magic".

The show jumping fans would be in for a treat today and tomorrow with plenty of top quality riders battling it out for the huge prize money on offer.

He said three riders for spectators to keep an eye on would be Brett Warren, Billy Raymont and Clem Smith.

He said they have some quality horses and could be in for a good share of the prize money.
