Car ploughs into Mary Street shops

SHOPPERS had to jump out of the way when a sedan ploughed into the front of Miller’s clothing shop at Cullinane’s Plaza in Mary Street yesterday about 1.34pm.

The elderly female driver appeared to be trying to park when the car mounted the footpath. Queensland Ambulance Service transported the driver, the only occupant, to Gympie hospital.

Bystander Katrina Gardner said she heard a crash and then saw a car sitting in between JayJays and Millers, having mown down a clothing rack and plunged into a glass window.

“I’m a bit shaken,” Ms Gardner admitted.

“That doesn’t happen every day. There were a lot of people in the street – thankfully it didn’t hit someone.”
