Woman went on $1000 shoplift spree

A SHOPLIFTING spree nearly ended behind bars for 47-year-old Gympie woman Tiana Monteath.

Monteath said she had been taking prescription drugs at the time of her offending behaviour when she stole about $1000 worth of items from Mary Street retailers in December.

She began by hiding cosmetics up her skirt at Amcal Day and Night Pharmacy and walking out without paying for them on December 3. The next day she took a computer bag worth $165 from Bags and Gifts and an item of clothing worth $249 from Foxy Lady.

Gympie Magistrates Court heard Monteath stole $576 worth of clothing from Pink Unlimited later that day and took a mobile phone from behind the bar at Charlies Hotel on December 11.

Monteath, of Goodwin Road, Two Mile was convicted and sentenced to one month in prison suspended for two years accompanied by probation.
