ROGER Marrington from the Gympie Smallbore Rifle and Silhouette Club competed at the South Kolan club's championship shoot with excellent results.

He gained first place in the A-grade 50m prone target shoot, then went on to collect second place in B-grade with a score of 78 out of 80 in the silhouette shoot.

It was a busy weekend at the Gympie club with two local church groups coming to shoot in the competition.

Friday night saw 26 members of the Community Church youth group enjoying the sport.

The first three placegetters were Caleb McKee, Mark McDonald and Nathan Chapman.

On Saturday afternoon, 14 members of the Assembly of God church's 18-Plus Group had their turn.

Everyone enjoyed the shoot and the barbecue they had organised. The first three places went to Dean Tennant (19 out of 20) who beat Jonathon Wyllis 19, on a countback. Third place went to Jason Pronger with 18.

On July 28 and 29, the club will hold a competition for The Variety Club Bash.
