THE catwalks of the world are crammed with young, long-legged beauties but even Gisele, Heidi and Kate had to start somewhere.

And if Miranda Kerr can go from country NSW to the catwalks of Milan and Paris, just about anything is possible.

It's that sort of dream which Serena Keenan hopes will inspire women - and maybe even a few men - to throw their stylish hats into the ring to work as models in fashion parades at this year's Sunshine Coast Show.

It's a long way from London Fashion Week but the owner of modelling agency Serena's Images believes anything is possible.

And the good news is, she's not just looking for the young and the stunning.

"I have a lovely group of models on my books but I'm keen to see who else is out there," Serena said.

"There is a real shortage of more mature models because they are hardest to find, yet a lot of the stores prefer to have them model their outfits."

While age is no barrier to starting a career on the catwalk, Serena does have a few criteria for aspiring models.

They must be well groomed and confident, with good posture and the ability to carry themselves properly - or at least learn to.

A smiling face is nice, but not essential.
