Seniors' fun walk on Saturday

GYMPIE Regional Council Mayor Ron Dyne has come on board to help local chaplains and is opening a seniors’ fun walk this weekend.

The Sponsored Seniors’ Fun Walk is being run by the Gympie Baptist Garden and Social Club in aid of school chaplaincy work in the region.

Fun walk spokesperson Audrey Donaldson encouraged all seniors to get sponsorship and take a walk around the Lake Alford duck ponds anytime from 9am to midday on August 14.

“I hope carers and families get involved too, to raise money or walk with the sponsored seniors,” she said.

For those who don’t have a senior to walk with during the event, two costumed grannies will be available for hire.

There will be a stall collecting sponsorship funds. Entertainment and a sausage sizzle or cuppa at the duck ponds will follow.

Mrs Donaldson encouraged people in wheel chairs to also take part.

Sponsorship forms are available at the Gympie Library and Mary Street tourist information booth.
