Seniors ace field at Nambour

GYMPIE tennis players Glen Hocking, Barry Hardingham and Warren Arnell found success at the Nambour Open Seniors’ Tournament at the weekend.

Hardingham won the 55s men’s singles as well as the combined men’s doubles with Arnell.

Hocking took part in the 60s men’s singles and although was unable to lift a win, combined well with Hardingham in the 40s men’s doubles to finish fourth.

Arnell claimed the 45s men’s singles and capped off a brilliant weekend with a win in the combined men’s doubles with Hardingham.

Meanwhile, the Gympie and Cooloola Veterans Tennis Association is hosting an Anzac Day tournament this Sunday.

The tournament will get underway at 1.30pm at the Queen’s Park tennis centre. Club president Warren Arnell has requested players signal interest before 5pm Friday.

“You don’t need partners and all tennis players are welcome – you don’t have to be a club member,” he said.

See tomorrow’s edition of The Gympie Times for more on Gympie tennis player Kym Ireland’s return from Mexico where she took part in the Senior World Tennis Championship representing Australia.
