Karate seminar sharpens skills

GYMPIE Karate Club Sensei Noel Turner has continued to encourage others to take up the disciplined sport after hosting a special Japan karate-do Ryobu-Kai training seminar in Bundaberg at the weekend.

Turner described the seminar as a “great success”.

“We had numbers attending from Gympie and Bundaberg,” he said.

“The seminar was an excellent opportunity for members to brush up on Kumite (sparing), Kata and self defence tactics.”

Meanwhile, the seminar also served as an opportunity for Turner to select a squad headed to Pomona, Kingaroy, Gympie and Brisbane where training will be undertaken, testing participants’ ability in fitness and competition.

Gympie Karate Club is located on Iron Street and anyone interested in getting involved in the sport, rich in tradition, is encouraged to contact the club on 5482 3204.

Stay tuned to The Gympie Times for more on the club’s activities throughout the year.
