Search for supermodels swings by Sunshine Coast
THE next big name in modelling could come from the Sunshine Coast.
Representatives from Vivien's Model Management opened the doors at Peregian Beach Community House yesterday as part of its search across south-east Queensland for fresh faces.
The Coast event was well attended, with more than 50 people, mostly women, showing up.
They ranged in ages from early teens to mid 20s.
Queensland head booker Michelle Lister said attendance was up on last year's open day on the Coast.
"We were really impressed. There were a few standouts which we were really excited about," Ms Lister said. "I really hope we're going to find our next big thing on the Sunshine Coast."
Everyone who turned out yesterday must now wait for that potentially life changing phone call to let them know how they went.
"If we do see potential we will get the boys and girls to come in for a meeting in Brisbane and we go from there," Ms Lister said.
"If we are interested and do want them they could come in for either more photo shoots or see whether their potential extend beyond the Sunshine Coast.
"In the past we have had a number of boys and girls that go on do interstate and even international work.
"We've had a few we've scouted at open days that have gone on to huge success."
Manager Georgia Barclay said open days continually provided the agency with a number of new faces.
"We always look forward to our annual open days because we always seem to find a few unique faces that stand out from the crowd. Those faces you look at and know are going to be something special."
Clients in the past have gone on to work for swimwear brands, department stores, television commercials and online boutiques.
Caloundra girls Mikaela Bailey, 16 and Sophie Funnell, 14, were the first in line for yesterday's open day.
Mikaela only heard about the search the day before, while Sophie was only made aware the day of the search.
"I heard about the search last year but wasn't able to attend so I've been looking forward to this for a while," Mikaela said.
Vivien's Model Management is the second longest established agency in the world and is internationally recognised as one of the leading agencies in Australia.
