Seals are far from home in Queensland waters
ABOUT a month ago we heard reports that someone had spotted what they thought was a seal out along the coast.
We had a bit of laugh and joked that it was probably a log floating in the water.
Well, it seems as though we have been corrected and should be eating humble pie.
There has been a seal sighting in the Bundaberg region with photographic evidence.
And they aren't blurry shots of something dark bobbing around the in water.
There is no doubt that this seal - more than likely a New Zealand fur seal - has wandered north and enjoyed a frolic in the water at Burnett Heads.
While not entirely unusual - seals are known to come as far north as Hervey Bay quite frequently - it is still a rare sighting, and one that we're lucky to share in.
And although they are cute to look at, we need to remember they are still a wild animal, so it pays not to get too close or attempt to touch them, no matter how doe-eyed they look at you.
