Seafood festival one of the best family fun days of the year
WOW! Who would believe that so much could come out of just one day?
The 2013 Tin Can Bay Seafood Festival would have to go down as one of the best family fun days of the year.
Whether it's for the music and entertainment, the fabulous food, all the stalls and displays or just the fun of the fair, you had it all.
The weather was a bit threatening at times and even that early afternoon shower was not going to put a damper on proceedings.
From 9am to 4.30pm the music and entertainment just kept coming. Then about midday queues for seafood started to form.
I refrained and instead went for a chopper ride.
But it's the people who make it and it was obvious that everyone was having a great time ... simply wandering with the crowds, watching the live entertainment or getting involved with the displays or competitions.
Later in the afternoon the big raffle was drawn and the winner of the win your weight in prawns competition was Ian Stevens, the former TCB Tourist Park owner.
Second prize, a 3kg whole rib fillet, supplied by TCB Family Butchery, was won by Cathy
Elliott of Gympie and the third prize, a 700ml bottle of Bundaberg Double Barrel Rum, was won by Gympie's Michelle Popplewell.
In the mullet-throwing competition, the winner was overseas visitor Joseph Havara with a distance of 36.5m and theladies event went to Jo Heker with 23.5m
Many thanks and congratulations to the TCB Chamber of Commerce and Tourism and the other organisations, the
people and businesses who donated their time and goods to make this year's Seafood Festival such a howling success.
Let's not forget too, the behind the scenes work done by the SES.
Think what it would be without them keeping us all under control and the measures they put down to keep us all safe.
They say next year will be even bigger and better. Well, 2013 will be a hard act to follow.
