Scott devastated after season-ending injury

MATT Scott has officially been ruled out for the rest of the NRL season, after the Cowboys confirmed he tore his ACL in Friday's win over the Broncos.

The veteran forward will undergo surgery on his knee following the devastating injury, suffered in the second half of the derby clash.

It is a big blow for the Cowboys who already lack depth in the their forward pack.

Scott has been one of the best players for the opening two rounds but will now be sidelined until next year.

Cowboys coach Paul Green said in a statement that the forward was "devastated".

"It's obviously a huge blow for Matt and he's understandably devastated," Green said.

"He'll have surgery then start his rehab, and knowing the type of player and person he is, he'll approach his recovery in the same dedicated way he trains and plays ... with 100% commitment."

The Cowboys have also lost winger Antonio Winterstein (arm) for up to six weeks while fullback Lachlan Coote (calf) will miss "several weeks".

This opens the door for Kalyn Ponga and Javid Bowen to come into the backline.

Green will name his 21-man squad on Tuesday for Saturday's clash with Manly.
