Sample 50 top wines at weekend festival in Urangan

CULTURE and class will come to Pier Park this weekend for the inaugural Hervey Bay Food and Wine Festival.

The Urangan event on this Saturday and Sunday from 11am to 6pm will feature live music, fresh food and Australian and international wines.

Event organiser Ivan Montaut said the Bay had needed a festival of this type for a long time.

"I saw the need for an event with good-quality, premium wine in Hervey Bay and that was 18 months ago, I just thought no one was doing it, so why not?"

Mr Montaut said festival- goers would be able to sample more than 50 wine varieties across both days.

The Bayswater, Wild Lotus, Aquavue and a wood-fired pizza oven on site will supply the food.

Wines had been sourced from prominent Australian and New Zealand growing regions. French, Spanish and Italian wines would also be available from a Euro tent. For more information, visit www.herveybayfoodand winefestival.com.au or find it on Facebook.

Entry is $15.
