OPINION: Salim's wedding controversy one great big joke
I STILL haven't made up my mind if Sam Mehajer's wedding extravaganza in Sydney the other day was amusing or an affront.
More than 5000 people in Auburn showed their concerns when they signed a petition to have him dismissed as the deputy mayor of Auburn.
The petition didn't go anywhere but in the bin as the council belted Salim with a feather duster issuing him with a massive $220 fine.
He would have been able to pay that in coins from the ashtray of his white Ferrari parked in the council lot.
Spending an estimated $300,000 on one of the most lavish weddings ever seen in Australia landed Salim in hot water, but it wasn't just because it was so spectacular.
Someone, and Salim says it wasn't him, placed a notice in resident's letter boxes saying the street where the wedding was been held was going to be closed for 24 hours and unless cars were moved they'd be towed away.
Up until I heard that I thought why not let a foolish man and his money be parted.
The great thing about living in Australia is that no matter where you go you will find interesting and sometimes strange characters.
Salim is certainly a character and I say who cares what he does as long as he treats people with respect and kindness.
If he doesn't he has no right sitting in a council chamber anywhere in Australia.
